What Is ALEKO’s Duplex System and Why Your Gate Should Undergo It

ALEKO gates are known not only for their beauty, but their durability and longevity. Made of steel, our gates are less flexible than aluminum and do not bend on impact. Steel’s ability to maintain shape makes it the better choice for homes and high security areas. All ALEKO Gates undergo a Duplex System of Hot Dipping and Powder Coating to ensure that the gate remains intact, and a superior choice, for years to come.

Step #1: Hot Dipping your Galvanized Steel Gate

With Hot Dipping, the iron and steel of your gate is coated with zinc to form a zinc carbonate. This process guarantees complete coverage–both internal and external protection of the steel. It also protects against long-term UV exposure, keeping the color of your gate intact. It enables the gate to self-repair when damaged, gives it good impact, abrasion resistance, and allows a maintenance free life of 100 years or more.

What does Hot Dipping actually entail?

Firstly, a hot alkaline solution removes soil, grease, dirt, and soluble markings from the steel. Then, dilute solutions of acid remove surface rust to provide a chemically clean metallic surface. Once clean, the steel is then immersed in a liquid flux to remove oxides and prevent oxidation. Once fluxed, the steel is immersed in a bath of molten zinc at between 815-850 F (435-455 C). Termed Galvanizing, this process is where the zinc metallurgically bonds to the steel to create a highly abrasion-resistant-zinc-iron layer. Once galvanized, excess zinc is removed and the steel is left to cool. Once fully cooled, ALEKO inspects the thickness of the coat and the evenness of the surface.

Step #2: Powder Coating your Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel Gate

Once Hot Dip Galvanized, our gates are then Powder Coated. This is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to the metal. The result is a more uniform, durable, high quality, and attractive finish as compared to conventional paint. Powder coated surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing allowing for the colors of your gate to remain bright and vibrant for a longer period of time. Ideal for products that are subject to a lot of vibration and twisting, this process is both sustainable and environment friendly.
