Red, White and BBQ

July 4th marks America’s Independence Day – and many Americans across the states are celebrating in a variety of different ways!

Every year for this holiday, my family takes a quick drive to one of Seattle’s largest parks. Lincoln Park in West Seattle spans over 130 acres and features a beautiful paved walkway along the Puget Sound. Ever since I could remember, we’ve had a July 4th family reunion every year – a tradition that spans generations. I always look forward to seeing family members I don’t often see but when it comes down to it, I’m definitely excited for the barbecue!

With my family, everyone is elected to bring certain foods and drinks to the party. My aunt always brings the chicken, my mom makes the potato salad, someone brings fresh fruit and others bring side dishes. (I bring the cupcakes!) When it comes to the main dish, there’s only one that takes the cake: ribs! Throughout the years my grandfather (AKA the GrillMaster to those in the know) spruces up the best sauce and dry rubbed ribs and it usually takes a few days! Now that he’s getting older, he’s passed this delectable tradition and important role to my father and uncle.

What are you doing this July 4th? Whether you’re at a backyard BBQ or at the park, here are a few ideas to get the party started.

Fire it up

For the Kiddos

When it comes to outdoor play, the world belongs to the kiddos. Get their head in the game with an invigorating basketball game! Little ones can get to bouncin’ bubbly within the safety of a trampoline, and exert more energy and get their bounce on in a bounce house! The bounce house features a pool that keeps them feeling fresh.

Although, we all know that nothing beats fireworks!

After a whole day of celebrating (and after we ate all the BBQ) my family and I flock to my grandparent’s house for fireworks. At times we like to switch up our location and watch the fireworks show at Gasworks Park. Sparklers included!
